TLaos is one of the poorest ASEAN country, mostly relying on tourism as its main source of income. In the recent years, the numbers of tourists coming from South Korea increased, but
the situation from local Lao people have still not improved.
Vang Vieng, a small farming village once famous for wild drug parties and even wilder tourist mixture remains one of the poorest region in Laos.
In the recent years, thing changed for better and numbers of tourists coming from South Korea flooded the small village, but the poverty situation from local Lao people have still not improved.
For this project partnership with a local Vang Vieng NGO was established in order to develop a service design platform to demonstrate how technology and current social media can positively impact this rural community, create a base for sustainable community and so change the power
dynamics in the region.
Taking advantage of the existing Korean wave, Lao Talk - a Kakao Talk plugin, is a platform that brings all the international stakeholder together for one collective goal. Talk platform creates equal entrepreneurial opportunities for all small local businesses and independent locals based on demand and trend research. We are creating a self-sustainable network, for tourists, operated by locals where collecting authentic experiences, discovering new products and creating memories in the region becomes easier as ever.

Sustainable design solutions in provincial Laos: Lao Kakao
